“...[man had] dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ... God created man in his own image ... male and female ... blessed them, and ... said unto them, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’ And ... said, ‘Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat. ...’”

Dominion (69) (70) (71) (72)

To “have dominion” means to rule, dominate, or to tread down. God set up a hierarchy of rule from the highest to the lowest forms of life. With this He established a food chain. He purposefully and orderly created the smallest and lowest forms of life and then created the forms of life, in each stage (day), that would live off that form of life. For example, the Sun, the Moon, the earth, and the water were prepared to grow and feed the seed grasses and their fruits and the seed-bearing fruit was food for the creatures that followed, which then was the food for Man who was then created -- all in perfect order. Each creature that was created had dominion over the levels of creation that preceded it. Man was given dominion over all of the creation (Genesis 9:2-3; Psalm 8:6-8; Hebrews 2:8; James 3:7).

The term “man” in Hebrew, is Adam (literally “red”); probably so called either from the red earth of which he was formed, or from the blush or flesh-tint of the human countenance: the name is intended to designate the species. God created man in His own image, which means in resemblance to Him. Man was originally created upright (Ecclesiastes 7:29), much to the disillusionment of those of evolutionary thinking. Man was at the beginning perfect. Man was created as the image and glory of God His creator (1 Corinthians 11:7). Man being created in God’s image shows the error in evolutionary thinking that man began as an animal (Romans 1:25).
