“... the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. ...the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested ... God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it ... These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, ... every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.”

Mist, Rain, Dew, Moisture (73) (74) (75) (76)

It took God six literal days to create the heavens and the earth and everything in it, which included all that lives and grows today. All the plants and herbs grew from the soil by a mist that came up out of the ground. No rain had come upon the earth to this time. All the moisture and water of the air was still above the earth as a canopy and had not fallen. The soil was still virgin and untilled. Only those plants and herbs grew which God had created and planted. Everything was virgin and unspoiled. God took this opportunity to rest and let the creation rest. This day was declared as a day of rest for all of God’s creation.

Genesis 2:1 agrees with the First Law of Thermodynamics, known also as The Law of Conservation of Energy and/or Mass, which states that neither matter nor energy can be either created or destroyed. There is no more creation going on today, just as it states in Scripture.
