Science has found it remarkable that the human body is made up of the same elemental composition as common soil (that is the virgin unspoiled soil of the new virgin earth) and that the human body has the same proportions of water to land as the earth (70%). However, this is only more evidence of the truth from the Bible that tells us that man was formed from “the dust of the ground” (Genesis 3:19; Psalm 139:15).
Man is made up of about 24 elements:
- 65% oxygen
- 18.5% Carbon
- 9.5% Hydrogen
- 3.3% Nitrogen
- 1.5% Calcium
- 1% Phosphorous
- 0.35% of potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, and magnesium.
The breath of life is the breath of God. There is no other life that has been formed by anyone, anywhere, or at any time. No human has ever been able to produce life from nothing (Acts 17:25). In fact, this breath of life God breathed into Adam was God’s Spirit (Job 27:3; Job 33:4; John 20:22). At the same time, Adam was given a soul (1 Corinthians 15:45). The soul is the life within a man that gives him a mind, a will and emotions. In Luke 8:55 we read of a young girl that is brought to life, who was thought already dead, by Jesus. The expression “her spirit” in this verse is used of one who had been dead, and strongly implies, that at death the soul not only exists separately, but returns and is re-united to the body, when it is raised from the dead (1 Kings 17:21-23; John 11:44). The soul is part of us that will never die. The soul is an essence, which differs from the body and is not dissolved by death (distinguished from other parts of the body).
